Description

The main focus of this course will be on the apocalyptic literature from the second temple and early Christian periods. The phenomenon of apocalyptic writing had its roots in second temple Judaism and exercised a profound influence on early Christianity with the redaction of a major work, included in the New Testament Canon, the Apocalypse of John. The course will not be limited to the reading of apocalyptic texts, but it intends to address the main themes that characterize historical research and the exegesis, as the definition of the apocalyptic genre, the counter-hegemonic elements in the texts, or the role of violence, which often informs apocalyptic imagery. Note: Course has additional section hour to be arranged.
