The Mystical Theology of Dionysius the Areopagite

Description

A close reading of the complete works of Pseudo Dionysius the Areopagite, the early sixth century theologian who wrote under the name of Pauls famous convert (Acts 17:34), and who is widely regarded as the foremost spokesman of the apophatic or negative mystical tradition. This course will devote most of its attention to his small but dense corpus. The course presumes no knowledge of Greek, but a Greek reading section will be offered.
