Altered States: Spirit Possession, Modernity, and Other Dangerous Crossings
Kristin Bloomer
Description
Spirit possession had always been about crossings: between bodies, between human and non-human agencies, between illness and healing. This course considers spirit possession practices, particularly in south India but also around the world, in regard to questions of agency, gender, syncretism, power, and the making of the modern nation-state.
