Description

This seminar course seeks to explore the interface between public religion and civil society, as it emerges in North American and Indian contexts. After taking a look at the history of the concepts, the course will analytically focus upon the contemporary scenario and study deeply the dynamics, features and issues attendant upon the relationship between public religion and civil society in these two countries, by way of learning from one another. It will also discuss the implications of the interface for practical theology. It will help the students of theology, religious studies, ethics and social sciences to gain deeper insights into the challenges and prospects of relating religion to civil society in democratic polities at the era of globalization.
