Description

General introduction to hermeneutical theory and theology. It surveys the development of theories of interpretation from classical to modern and contemporary times and show the relation between the theory of interpretation and the understanding of theology. The course will especially attend to the influence of nineteenth and twentieth century theories of interpretation upon sacred texts, the diverse approaches to theology, and key theological categories such as revelation, experience, method, foundations, classics, community, and practice. It introduce studies to some of the modern debates about the importance of interpretation for religious and theological studies. Note: Course has additional hour to be arranged.
