First Church of Christ in Lancaster
The First Church, gathered in 1653 as the first parish church, is a middle class congregation worshiping in a Bullfinch-designed meeting house. It is fairly traditional in liturgical style, with an active parish life of church suppers, discussion and study groups, and special services such as a Thanksgiving Seder and Epiphany vespers. The project will provide the student with a wide range of experiences in parish ministry in a liberal Christian church.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
The student will assist in the adult worship service with an opportunity to preach monthly or on some mutually agreeable schedule, teach an occasional Sunday School class and may negotiate for involvement in other areas of pastoral responsibility. The student's hours per week will include transportation and supervisory sessions. The bulk of his/her time will be on Sundays, with other hours arranged on a mutually convenient schedule. There is a possibility of some denominational involvement in the Boston-Cambridge area as well.
