First Religious Society - Carlisle
Contact Person(s):Rev. Dr. Diane Miller
The church, established in 1758, overlooks the town green in Carlisle Center, about 17 miles from HDS. Carlisle is an affluent, suburban community which strives to maintain its rural feel and open space. Various organizations in town use the building. The church has 150 adult members and a small but vital program for nursery through high school.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
The congregation has moved from Field Education to a two-year, half-time internship model designed to meet requirements of the UUA Ministerial Fellowship Committee. An Internship Committee will work with the student, in addition to the Supervisory guidance. Students taking the role of Student Minister have a wide range of experiences geared toward preparation for ministry. Student Ministers have had responsibilities in Youth, Preaching and Worship, Administration and Management, Pastoral Care, Teamwork, and more. The Church is looking for innovative/creative programs and involvement reaching all age groups. Students are limited only by time, imagination, and experience.
There is no public transportation to Carlisle, so students will need to have access to a car.
