First Parish of Stow and Acton
Contact Person(s):Rev. Thomas Anthony Rosiello
First Parish Church is a thriving mid-sized Unitarian Universalist Congregation located about 20 miles west of Cambridge. We are at a fascinating and challenging point in our 324 year history where new ideas and rapid growth are building on a strong foundation of church traditions. Our congregation is very active with diverse social justice and outreach programs, professionally led religious education with 150 children and youth enrolled, many adult programs including an exemplary small group ministry, fine choir and other musical groups. The church is run by strong lay and professional leadership working together. We are a diverse welcoming congregation with opportunities to minister to youth and the elderly, to people of diverse theological views, to straight and gay people, to households of just about every conceivable family structure, and to people of increasingly varied socio-economic backgrounds. Our newly created mission statement captures the spirit of the church with these words:
We welcome all who seek a vibrant spiritual home where together we lovingly challenge and transform ourselves. Empowered by our congregation’s rich history and our Unitarian Universalist traditions, we commit to courageously build a caring and just world.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
There will be a variety of ministerial practice opportunities for an Intern Minister at First Parish Church. S/He will have opportunities to exercise pastoral care, to participate in an active, established RE program, and to plan, contribute to, and preach at well-attended Sunday morning worship services graced by vibrant and varied music. In addition, there will be an opportunity to participate in and provide leadership for a variety of social justice ministries. The intern minister will also work with the minister on the nuts and bolts of church administration and governance in a growing mid-sized congregation. There will be weekly supervision for which the intern will prepare a one page reflection each week. This field education position meets the requirements for the two year part-time UUA Internship and pays a yearly stipend of $6500.
