Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD)

Located in downtown Boston, GLAD is New England's leading legal rights organization for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people, and people living with HIV. GLAD's mission is to achieve full equality for all individuals in these groups primarily through litigation and education.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
Students will be involved in a variety of our public education projects depending on the student's interests and the needs of GLAD's clients. Students will work directly with people experiencing discrimination because of their sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or HIV status by staffing our toll-free hotline. They will work with clients, informing them of their legal rights and options as well as establishing appropriate legal and social service referrals. Students will also be involved in a wide variety of public education activities ranging from organizing educational forums to researching and writing brochures, fact sheets and resource guides. Topics include same-gender marriage, employment discrimination, access to medical treatment for people with HIV, student rights, family law and domestic partnership.
