Organization Description:

Good Shepherd is a loving and active parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America seeking to minister faithfully in the midst of a diverse neighborhood. Members are faithful in attending worship (including the Holy Week Triduum) and weekly Wednesday bible study (September-May), praying for each other and the world, and engaging in a variety of social service ministry projects throughout the year - highlighted by a Door-to-Door Neighborhood Food Drive in October. Hospitality and welcome is experienced by worship guests and members take great pride in the parish's Welcome Statement. The site offers the unique experience of an out gay pastor serving in a blue-collar ministry setting.

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

Field Education students at Good Shepherd have the opportunity to preach, teach, participate in worship planning, social ministry projects, Christian Education, and parish administration. Students would find a welcoming place to try new ministry projects and a supportive and encouraging environment to learn and grow.

Commute/Transportation Information:

A car would not be required for this ministry site as we are located just under 1/2 mile from the North Quincy station on the Braintree Red Line T. Due to heavy traffic at times on the Southeast Expressway (I-93 South), the T is often faster than driving even if the student had a car.

Supervision:

Weekly supervision sessions between the pastor and the student will be offered. Monthly meetings between the student and a Field Education Committee of members of the congregation will also be offered.
