Organization Description:

Hyde Park Presbyterian Church is a small (about 50 adults and children in worship each Sunday), multicultural congregation in an urban neighborhood. The church includes people of all ages and a variety of ethnic and class backgrounds. Over half of the people in the congregation are immigrants from the West Indies and Africa. The Hyde Park neighborhood includes established, working-class and retired European immigrant families; more recent immigrants from Haiti and other Caribbean islands and Africa; and young, professional families. The congregation is very friendly and committed to growing and serving its neighborhood. Church programs include Sunday worship and mid-week Bible Study prayer and Sunday School for children and youth. The church runs the ShOuT! (Sharing Our Talents) performing arts and education program, which includes an after-school tutoring program, a monthly coffee house and open mic, the Stage Light Theatre Troupe, and a community band. The church also sponsors a diaper distribution program and participates in a local food pantry; community organizing; and youth organizing.
