Massachusetts Bible Society
Contact Person(s):Rev. Anne Robertson
Founded in 1809, The Massachusetts Bible Society is a Christian organization that exists to promote biblical literacy, understanding and dialogue that is grounded in scholarship, socially relevant, and respectful of the many voices within the Bible and all those who turn to the Bible in faith.
Through our gift, Andover Newton Theological School has just opened a new Media Center, and with that support (our office is now on the Andover Newton campus) we aim to move the Society into the 21st century.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
As we move into a third century of ministry, we are in a period of re-invention, seeking to use all the tools of social media and web 2.0 to engage people both inside and outside the church in biblical reflection and dialogue.
We ask students to keep up a lectionary blog on our website and to prepare classes for Advent and Lent in two formats. The first is one that can be presented live in Boston for an ecumenical group, and the second is in the format of an online class that can be posted on our website.
Students are also encouraged to engage participants in our Facebook group and the social network on our website to keep biblical dialogue alive in those forums.
