Melrose Unitarian Universalist Church
Contact Person(s):Rev. Barbara Threet
The Melrose Unitarian Universalist Church is a growing church community with 150 adults and 85 children. It has an active church school under the guidance of Mandy Neff, Director of Religious Education. Melrose has population of 28,000 and is located seven miles north of Boston. Recently it has become a "Welcoming Congregation" reaching out to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender population. Its adult education program offers opportunities for community participation, and its social action commitment includes a "Bread of Life" program as well as an international connection with a Partner Church in Romania. The present challenge is to move from a "small" church to a "program" church. The congregation is eager to meet this challenge.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
The student is expected to participate in the worship services as well as to offer adult education programs for life-span religious education. The congregation is hoping to begin the "covenant group" project offering an excellent opportunity for the student to organize and support such a project. There will be an opportunity to work as a member of the parish staff participating in all aspects of ministry.
