Peace Lutheran Church - Suburban Agriculture and Nature Chaplaincy
Contact Person(s):Rev. Jeffrey Johnson
Peace Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Through its fifty years of ministry in Wayland, Peace has been the ministry site for seminarians from university divinity schools and from Lutheran seminaries.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
Student will help to create a new project working with two local farms, Lindentree Farm CSA and/or Two-Fields Farm. Some of the student's time will be spent farming while a portion may be spent in conversation with Rabbi Katy Allen as she develops practices of nature chaplaincy. Expectations and specific tasks and goals will be negotiated with the student at the beginning of the term. A student may choose to explore the environmental and land-use ethics of suburban farming; the efficiencies and economies of local food production; the theology of land use, outdoor spirituality, or some other aspect of thoughtful outdoor activity in suburban Boston.
A student without a car could take the commuter rail to the Lincoln station and walk to Lindentree Farm for supervisory sessions and work in the fields. Other responsibilities may take place at Peace Lutheran Church in Wayland, a short drive south on Route 126.
