University Lutheran Church - Campus Ministry
Contact Person(s):Rev. Kathleen O'Keefe Reed
Young Adult and Graduate Students (YAGS) Ministry is a vital tether-point for a wide range of ministry opportunities at University Lutheran, engaging people of diverse ages and walks of life for whom Harvard Square is the magnet in building the radical vocal community of Jesus. At UniLu the mix is made up of students, faculty and staff of many different Boston area institutions of higher education and research, scientists, musicians, artists, young professionals, street-dwellers, and suburban families with children and grandchildren who prize urban, polyphonic faith community in a Lutheran key. We are a Reconciling in Christ congregation for which LBGT voices are essential in the building of God's radical vocal community.
Opportunities for Student Involvement:
The student will work with supervising pastor, Kathleen O. Reed, pastoral and lay staff and a team of young adult lay leaders on both strengthening YAGS outreach among the focus community (wing-spanning) and growing intergenerational connections within the resident community (dovetailing). Worship will include Sunday mornings (eclectic/traditional) and mid-weeks (dinner-church/evening prayer/alternative). Service projects, hiking, camping, concerts, movies, bible studies, games, discussion groups have been staples but new ventures are only limited by questions, interests and imaginations of participants. Development of excellent communication practices will be a must. The one-on-one conversation is at the heart of most relationship-building.
Located in Harvard Square, Cambridge.
