Organization Description:

Lahey Clinic is a physician-led, nonprofit group practice. Nearly 450 physicians and more than 4,000 nurses, therapists and other support staff work together to provide compassionate care and superior patient outcomes. The Clinic's multidisciplinary approach allows patient access to preeminent physicians from virtually every medical specialty. Lahey Clinic Medical Center encompasses an ambulatory care center serving more than 3,000 patients each day and a 350-bed hospital. Lahey Clinic has a 24-hour emergency department and an American College of Surgeons verified Level II Trauma Center. Of particular note are the Liver Transplantation team, the Cerebrovascular Disease Center and one of the largest heart and vascular centers in the region.

Lahey Clinic Medical Center is a teaching hospital for Tufts University School of Medicine. The Clinic maintains residency and fellowship programs for more than 130 new physicians in multiple subspecialties.

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

Students will function as members of the Pastoral Care Department. There will be a variety of tasks and concentrations, ranging from routine pastoral visits to crisis intervention and palliative care. The goal of the program is to enhance pastoral skills and integrate academic theological training with the "real" world of pastoral ministry. Students will minister to patients, family and staff.

Personal Transportation is best for this setting, but a bus from Alewife station comes to the hospital.

Weekly individual supervision, maintenance of journal and occasional other written and reading assignments.
