Organization Description:

The Office of Service, Spirituality and Social Responsibility (www.wheatonma.edu/sssr) encourages students in this devoutly secular liberal arts college to connect classroom and community-based learning in purposeful consideration of how actions, values and beliefs influence critical life choices and affect the people with whom they interact and the intercultural communities of which they are a part. In particular, the spirituality program of SSSR supports the exploration of tradition-specific religious, spiritual and ethical practices, promotes interfaith dialogue, religious literacy and the ability to articulate the values and sense of purpose -- religious or secular -- that give meaning to personal, academic/professional and community life. During the coming academic year, SSSR will coordinate the Wheaton's participation in the President's Interfaith and Community Service Challenge.

Opportunities for Student Involvement:

The intern will work closely with the Associate Dean for Service, Spirituality and Social Responsibility, faculty, student and community leaders to develop and implement our new service-based approach to interfaith dialogue and religious literacy through our participation in the President's Interfaith and Community Service Challenge. HDS student interns will also have the opportunity to develop their skills in student leadership development, tradition-specific small group ministry, collaborative leadership, individual spiritual development and social service/justice ministry. There will also be occasional opportunities for leadership in Christian and interfaith worship services. Site supervisor is committed to providing an excellent introduction to contemporary college chaplaincy in a mutli-faith institution.

To work successfully at our site, the following will be helpful: flexibility, team-orientation, an excellent sense of humor and strong desire to work with a culturally-diverse community of college students.

Commute/Transportation Information:
