Mission

The mission of the HDS Latino/a Alumni/ae Association (LAA) is to connect alumni and alumnae with each other and with the School in a community of service committed to enhancing the lives of people of Latino descent through scholarship, advocacy, and leadership development. This association will pursue its mission within the context of the challenges facing people of Latino descent in a pluralistic, multicultural society. Commitment to this mission will exert a transformative influence on the lives of present and future alumni and alumnae as well as Harvard Divinity School itself. To these ends, the HDS Latino/a Alumni/ae Association will:

  1. Create forums to promote networking, community building, and the strengthening bonds of fellowship to develop a collective sense of identity amongst alumni and alumnae.
  2. Participate in collaborative relationships with alumni and alumnae and students of Latino descent representing other Schools at the University.
  3. Advocate for the increased recruitment and retention of HDS faculty and students of Latino descent who hail from diverse religious backgrounds.
  4. Advise the Dean and his or her administration about matters such as the curriculum, career placement, alumni affairs and development, continuing education, and about such other matters as to which the Dean seeks its advice or as to which it desires to offer such advice, related to the needs of people of Latino at Harvard Divinity School.
  5. Advocate with the Harvard Divinity School Alumni/ae Association on behalf of alumni and alumnae of Latino descent.
  6. Recognize alumni and alumnae who distinguish themselves in service to the mission of HDS LAA.
