2008 Career Networking Fair:
Information for Students and Alumni/ae
This year's Career Networking Fair will take place on Wednesday, April 9,
2008, from 11 am to 4 pm
in the Braun Room, Andover Hall, 45 Francis Avenue, Cambridge.
Audience
The HDS fair is open to students and alumni/ae of all Harvard
schools, as well as students and alumni/ae of the schools of the Boston
Theological Institute and of Hebrew
College. All HDS students are
encouraged to attend.
Fees
There is no fee to attend.
Registration
Registration is not required. Current students, please bring your student
ID; alumni/ae, let
us know in advance of your plans to attend.
Professional Fields
Invitations are sent to persons in the following fields, and with the
following types of organizations: Advocacy,
Chaplaincy, Counseling, Denominational Affiliates,
Education, Faith-Based Agencies, Fellowships, Health/Human
Services, Human Rights, Internships, Ministerial
Residencies, NGOs, Pastoral Care, Publishing, Public Service, Summer
Opportunities, and Research/Consulting. We
seek to avoid excessive overlap with other fairs to which HDS students
have access, such as Kennedy School and
Education School fairs, as well as the annual Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE)
fair. We focus heavily on organizations with clear connections
to religious and theological studies, but we
invite both faith-based and secular organizations.
Parish Ministry
Organizations with ministry positions generally not filled through
denominational structures, such as chaplaincies and ministerial residencies, are included on the invitation list. However, respecting
denominational procedures, the fair is not intended for the recruitment of permanent ordained parish
ministers. Please contact the HDS
Office of Ministry Studies and appropriate
denominational representatives to make connections
regarding these positions.
Purposes
The purposes of this fair are broad. Recruiting is encouraged when
representatives are able, but we have found that many students find it helpful to have people
attend the fair who can speak broadly about a field, in addition to those who can
speak only about one particular organization or opportunity. Additionally, some
organizations are able to send representation, but not necessarily a recruiter.
It is wise to think of these fairs as opportunities for learning and networking
in addition to opportunities for seeking employment.
Size
We usually host just under 20 representatives from a wide range of fields.
Preparing for the Fair
See our advice on career and networking fairs.
Parking
While it is possible to find metered or other paid parking
in Harvard Square, searching for a spot can be frustrating. We recommend using public
transportation, or parking at one of the outer T stations and taking the train to Harvard Square if
possible.
