Grants for Harvard Faculty

Spring Conference Grants

Beginning in 2013, the CSWR invites applications to host a spring conference, offering financial support up to $20,000 (which must cover all costs, including 10 percent overhead and staffing support).

This spring (April 14-16, 2013) the CSWR is sponsoring the first in this new series of annual spring conferences, "The Song of Songs: Translation, Reception, Reconfiguration." The conference involves seven or eight invited scholars from outside the Cambridge/Boston area, the collaboration of a number of scholars at Harvard and in the area, and the participation of interested Harvard graduate students. One session will be open to the wider public. While there are many models for conferences, with reference to scope and format this conference is also intended to serve as a template for similar Center conferences in 2014 and beyond.

We invite Harvard University faculty to propose a conference for the spring semester of 2014 (February 15 to April 30 inclusive). To apply, please complete and submit the following as email attachments:

Please note the following guidelines:

  • Deadline for submission is March 1.
  • Proposal narratives must articulate the rationale for the conference and whether or how it would fit the mission and current profile of the CSWR. Such a fit is not required but will be taken into account in assessing applications.
  • The faculty member or members proposing the conference will, if it is accepted, be responsible for articulating the conference theme, setting the dates (in consultation with the CSWR calendar), selecting and inviting the outside speakers, respondents, and so on. The CSWR will sponsor the conference, handle advertising and meals, and arrange housing and travel for out-of-town guests, offering financial support up to $20,000 (which must cover all costs, including 10 percent overhead and staffing support).
  • All funding related to the conference must be spent before June 15. Excess funds may not be applied to purposes than the stated conference purpose.
