The 'Sympathetic' Study of World Religions: Peril and Promise

A panel discussion introduced by CSWR director Donald Swearer, moderated by George Rupp, president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, and featuring Jane Smith, Professor of Islamic Studies at Hartford Seminary and co-director of the the Duncan Black Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, M. David Eckel Associate Professor of Religion, Boston University, Lamin Sanneh, D. Willis James Professor of Missions and World Christianity, Yale University, and Vasudha Narayanan, Distinguished Professor of Religion at the University of Florida. This event celebrated the history of the study of world religions, and the publication of John B. Carman and Kathryn Dodgson's Community and Colloquy: The Center for the Study of World Religions, 1958-2003.
