Open Position in Theology
Harvard Divinity School invites applications and nominations for a new faculty appointment in Theology. We seek a scholar at the junior or senior level who engages with the theology, traditions, and the legacy of the Protestant reformations. We are particularly interested in someone with constructive interests; theological engagement with ethical, social, and/or political dimensions of contemporary life is also desired.
Familiarity with forms of analysis that address race, gender, and social location is expected, as is the desire to collaborate across academic boundaries in our wider curricular and intellectual enterprises. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the Divinity School’s curricula, including the multi-religious Master of Divinity, the Masters of Theological Studies, and the Doctor of Theology, as well as the Ph.D. in the Study of Religion and undergraduate (A.B.) programs based in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Excellence in teaching and research is required. Applicants must also be competent in research languages appropriate to their specialties. The doctoral degree must be held by July 1, 2014.
Applications should be made online at: http://academicpositions.harvard.edu. A cover letter, current curriculum vitae, writing sample (or sample publication), and the names of three references are required of all junior candidates (any candidate not currently holding the title of “Professor”). A letter of interest and current curriculum vitae is required of senior candidates. Review of applications will begin October 15 and continue until the position is filled. To insure full consideration, applicants are encouraged to submit their materials by November 8. Selected candidates may be invited to initial interviews at the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD, November 23-26, 2013.
Letters of nomination are also welcome, and should be sent to: Theology Search Committee, c/o Matthew B. Turner, Harvard Divinity School, 45 Francis Ave, Cambridge, MA, 02138, or to email@example.com. Applicants should address any questions regarding the position itself or the online application system to Matthew Turner, Faculty and Academic Affairs Coordinator, at the above email address or by phone at 617.496.0847.
Harvard University is an equal opportunity, affirmative-action employer and encourages applications from and nominations of women and/or ethnic minority candidates.
