Dennis Hirota, of the Department of Shin Buddhist Studies, Ryukoku
University, Japan, will be at HDS in the spring semester 2008 as the Numata
Visiting Professor of Buddhism. Much of Hirota's work has focused on the
Pure Land Buddhist thought of Shinran (1173-1263), and he is the chief
translator of "The Collected Works of Shinran." He is editor of Toward a
Contemporary Understanding of Pure Land Buddhism: Creating a Shin Buddhist
Theology in a Religiously Plural World (SUNY Press, 2000), and his other
publications include Asura's Harp: Engagement With Language as Buddhist
Path; No Abode: The Record of Ippen; and Wind in the Pines:
Classic Writings of the Way of Tea as a Buddhist Path.
