Harvard Theological Studies

Harvard Theological Studies is an academic book series that originated at Harvard Divinity School in 1916. In any given year the HTS series has published the best dissertation by either a Harvard Divinity School or Harvard University Study of Religion doctoral student. Faculty from the Divinity School review dissertations of students in the ThD program, and both Divinity School and Arts and Sciences faculty review those of PhD students. Also included in the HTS series are monographs written or edited by Harvard faculty members.

Between 1975 and 1993 two separate series existed: Harvard Theological Studies published mainly monographs, and Harvard Dissertations in Religion published dissertations. Presently, HTS publishes both monographs and dissertations. The new goal of HTS board members is to publish at least two books per year. Currently, these are being published by Harvard Divinity School and distributed by Harvard University Press.
