Wireless Information
Wireless at HDS
In May 2001, Harvard Divinity
School implemented a wireless network to allow access
to Internet resources by students, faculty, and staff using laptop computers
equipped with 802.11b/g Wireless Ethernet capability. The wireless network
currently extends to all areas of the HDS campus.
Nearly all new laptops come with built-in wireless capability. Older
laptops that do not have wireless capability can have a wireless device added,
generally using the PC-Card slot or a USB port.
How to Connect to the HDS Wireless network
Connecting to the HDS Wireless network is as simple as finding the Wireless
Network named "Harvard University" and connecting to it. As an
example, here are the instructions for connecting using a Windows PC:
- Right-click on the wireless icon located on the system tray.
- Select View Available Wireless Networks.
- On the new window that pops up, select Harvard University and then
the Connect button.
Wireless printing
Print jobs can be sent to selected HDS printers through the HDS Wireless
network. For further information, please view our wireless printing documentation.
Harvard Wireless Project
HDS is also participating in the Office of The Harvard University CIO-sponsored Harvard
Wireless Project. This project allows all Harvard students, staff, and
faculty to use wireless facilities at all participating schools, usually by
authenticating with a Harvard University ID (HUID) and personal identification
number (PIN). HUID holders can register and
generate a PIN from the Harvard University PIN Administration site.
Information about wireless access elsewhere at Harvard is available on the
Harvard University Wireless website.
