Walking from Harvard Square

The library is approximately a 15-minute walk from Harvard Square. These directions originate from the Church St./Harvard Yard exit of the MBTA Red Line Harvard stop.

On the street level, from the station exit walk straight ahead on the brick sidewalk. Along the right side of the sidewalk is an iron fence. On the other side of the fence is Harvard Yard. Go past the main gate into Harvard Yard and follow the sidewalk as it curves to the right and crosses over an overpass. Watch on your left for the Science Center. Bear left and continue straight until you reach Oxford Street, a sharply bending road just beyond the Science Center. Go right on Oxford Street, walking toward William James Hall, a tall white building. Oxford Street becomes Kirkland Street at the intersection with Quincy Street. To reach the library, continue on Kirkland, past Divinity Avenue, to Francis Avenue, and turn left.  Continue walking until you see Swartz Hall, a large stone building.  The library entrance is inside Swartz Hall.
