Manuscripts and Archives
Welcome to the Manuscripts and Archives Department of Andover-Harvard Theological Library. This department supports the library's mission to be a major source of materials on religion, and it focuses on collecting Unitarian Universalist records, the papers of Harvard Divinity School faculty members, and the informal records of Harvard Divinity School.
The material in this department does not circulate, and most of it is stored off-site. Therefore, it is necessary to make an appointment with the curator at least two business days in advance in order to view the collections. See How to Use the Manuscripts and Archives Collections for more information.
The library's manuscripts and archival materials are organized into five main categories:
-
Personal Papers
Papers of Harvard Divinity School faculty, American Unitarian and Universalist ministers, and other individuals of note in the field of religion.
-
Unitarian Universalist Congregational Records
Records of Unitarian Universalist churches and fellowships in the United States and Canada.
-
Unitarian Universalist Institutional Records
This department serves as the archives for the Unitarian Universalist Association, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, and their predecessor agencies--the American Unitarian Association (AUA), the Universalist Church of America (UCA), and the Unitarian and Universalist Service Committees.
-
Harvard Divinity School Records
The official records of the Divinity School are located in the Harvard University Archives. This department collects the unofficial records of the School, which include newsletters, reports, brochures, posters, photographs, and film and sound recordings.
-
Records of Other Religious Institutions
Records of religious institutions not affiliated with either HDS or the Unitarian Universalist tradition in the United States.
This department is interested in receiving new material that fits our collection scope. If you are interested in donating materials, please see Donating Manuscripts and Archival Materials.
