Biographical Information:

David Damon (1788-1843) was a Unitarian minister. He graduated from Harvard Divinity School in 1811. He also helped found Cambridge's Harvard Lyceum, studied theology at the Andover Theological Seminary, and was pastor in Lunenburg, Massachusetts, from 1815 to 1827. He was pastor of the West Cambridge Unitarian Church (now the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington) from 1835 to 1843. In 1841, he gave the Dudleian lecture at Harvard.

Scope and Content:

Collection includes 14 of Damon's handwritten paper-bound journals, 1838-1843. These journals record Damon's contacts with his clerical colleagues, his family members, his work on particular sermons and Lyceum lectures, meetings of voluntary associations to which he belonged, and various other aspects of his personal and professional life. Newspapers with Damon's obituaries, pamphlets, sermons, and other documents are also included.
