Collection Strengths: Biblical Studies
Biblical studies is one of the areas of greatest strength
in Andover-Harvard Theological Library. Indeed, Andover-Harvard has the major
responsibility in the University for the collection of books,
serials, and other materials in the biblical field. This
includes biblical texts, biblical theology, biblical
commentaries and criticism, hermeneutics, and biblical
archaeology. Houghton Library has pre-Reformation biblical
texts and imprints. Widener Library has post-Biblical Jewish
materials. Collecting in western languages is as comprehensive
and exhaustive as possible, except for the Bible itself. Texts
of the Bible are collected for research and historical
purposes only. Thus, new editions of the Bible will be
purchased in many languages, while new printings
or expensive editions and reprints may not.
