John Stetson Barry

John Stetson Barry (1819-1872) was ordained a Universalist minister in 1838. He served churches in West Amesbury (now Merrimac), Mass., Weymouth, Mass. (beginning in 1839), West Scituate, Mass. (beginning in 1841), Pawtucket, R.I. (beginning in 1844), and Needham, Mass. (beginning in 1855). In 1861, he became editor of The Universalist. A historian, he wrote a three-volume history of Massachusetts, a history of the town of Hanover, Mass., and a genealogical history of the Stetson family; he is also credited with helping to discover the manuscript history of the Plymouth colony by William Bradford.
