Kindles and Nooks Available

The Harvard Library Access Services Unit has funded a pilot project to assess the interest in and use of e-readers by the Harvard community. Three Kindles and two Nooks are now available at Andover-Harvard and may be borrowed by all current Harvard faculty, students, staff, and anyone with borrowing privileges at the library. They are preloaded with fifty popular and new-release fiction and nonfiction titles (Adobe Reader required to read this list). Additional Kindles and Nooks are available at Lamont, Cabot, Countway, and the Harvard Kennedy School Library.

They circulate with a loan period of 28 days with up to five renewals permitted if there are no other holds or recalls on them. Fines for overdue and/or lost devices will be rigorously enforced. A device not returned on its due date would receive one day grace, and if not returned would immediately be charged to lost with a $100 replacement fee and a $10 processing fee.

Users are asked to fill out an online questionnaire that will ask for feedback on the e-reader and its content. The questionnaire will also give the user the option of providing his/her name and contact information to be part of a focus group later in the semester.
