The Road of Excess

Listen to a presentation on February 8 at the CSWR by Sébastien Tutenges, Assistant Professor at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. Tutenges's ethnographic research on contemporary nightlife resorts, music festivals, drug use, and risk taking invokes Durkheim's concept of effervescence and Bataille's notion of the accursed share in seeking to understand youthful excess and experimentation as elementary forms of religious life.
