On February 2, 2001, the Center for the Study of Values in Public Life sponsored a forum on James Carroll's new book, Constantine's Sword: The Church and the Jews, a History (Houghton Mifflin) in the Sperry Room, Andover Hall. Participants in the forum were Carroll; Ben Birnbaum, executive director of marketing and communications and special assistant to the president at Boston College and editor of Boston College Magazine; Krister Stendahl, Mellon Professor of Divinity Emeritus and former Dean of HDS and Bishop Emeritus of the Lutheran Church of Sweden in the Diocese of Stockholm; and Kevin Madigan, Visiting Professor of the History of Christianity at HDS and associate professor at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.
