Women and Gender in Religion Panel Discussion
(February 2006)
Ann Braude, Amy
Hollywood, Elizabeth Gish, Ben Dunning, and Nan Hutton reflected
upon this set of questions: What for you is most interesting and
distinctive about conjoining the study of religion with that of women,
gender, and sexuality? What are the special intellectual opportunities,
and what are the potential pitfalls specific to this line of
investigation? Where does the field of women's and gender studies in
religion stand now, from your vantage point: what is exciting, and what is
not? What is your vision of where the field could—and should—go? After
initial comments, the discussion was opened to the audience.
The Study of Women and Gender in Religion Forum is
organized by Janet Gyatso, Hershey Professor of Buddhist Studies,
who introduces this talk.
