On November 7, 2002, Daniel
Callahan delivered the 2002-03 Ingersoll Lecture. Callahan is a founder
of the Hastings Institute, a nonprofit research center that examines
ethical questions in health care, biotechnology, and the environment,
and serves as director of its international programs. He is the author
of many books, including the forthcoming What Price Better Health:
Hazards of the Research Imperative.
