Hospice of South Shore is a program of the Visiting Nurse Association and South Shore Hospital. Hospice is dedicated to care of the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of terminally ill patients and their families within the home setting. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of medical professionals, social workers, chaplains and volunteers. Bereavement services are offered for up to a year after the patient has died. A car is required for transportation. The program is located 12 miles south of Cambridge.
Student
Involvement: The student will work closely with the Coordinator of Chaplaincy and Bereavement Services, and medical staff. S/he will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of ways. Client contact is required and the student will follow his/her own case load. S/he may choose both Hospice and hospital commitments. The student will be given the opportunity to participate in the Hospice volunteer training program and co-facilitating a bereavement support group. Some time may be spent in preparation of a memorial service, community education, participation on an ethics committee and meetings with other team members.
Arts of Ministry Competencies:
Pastoral Care and Counseling.
Supervision: The student will meet once a week with the Coordinator of Chaplaincy and Bereavement Services. 12-15 hours/week. Car required.
