Project: The Peace Abbey was created following Mother Teresa's visist in 1988 and serves as a model for religious organizations, communities, and individuals seeking nonviolent, pacifist pathways to peace, social justice and cruelty-free living. A variety of programs and resources are available that teach, inspire, and encourage one to speak out and act on issues. Faith in action is the cornerstone of our fellowship. The multi-faith chapel holds the prayers from the twelve major faith traditions from the first gathering of religious leaders on the Day of Prayer for World Peace held in Assisi, Italy in 1986. On the grounds are The Pacifist Memorial honoring the individuals who devoted their lives to social change through nonviolence, The Sacred Cow Animals Rights Memorial with the statue of Emily the cow who received sanctuary here until she passed away, CO Hill where the cremation ashes of several conscientious objectors are buried, the Peace Memorial Muesum with conference facilities, and the Peace Abbey guesthouse and chapel. Our mission is to support people on the sacred journey of loving the ways others love God.

Student Involvement: Student interns are encouraged to explore all of the programs and projects under the care of The Peace Abbey. In addition, students with a particular area of interest may develop new programs with the assistance of the supervisor. Planning seminars, workshops on peace, and involvement in the daily operation of the The Peace Abbey as well as special project that include Stonewalk, the National Registry, and the Courage of Conscience Award ceremonies may be explored. Students who are self motivated and interested in creating a culture of peace are encouraged to apply.
