Project:
Massachusetts Health Decisions (MHD) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that provides both public and professional education on ethical issues in health care. MHD works collaboratively with health care and community organizations, clinical and administrative staff, educators, and members of the public to develop programs that benefit people who provide care and those who receive it. MHD is a founding member of American Health Decisions (www.ahd.org), a nationwide umbrella of similar programs. By means of facilitated discussions, MHD also solicits public opinion in order to better inform health care policy development.
Student
Involvement: MHD provides a good opportunity for students to explore the practical aspects of contemporary medical ethics. Students will have the chance to initiate and maintain relationships with community organization representatives and health care professionals, develop and implement public presentations and curricula and critically evaluate the relationship between health care decision-making and personal theology. Depending on the skills and interests of the student, and in consultation with the supervisor, the student may participate in existing MHD programs, apply existing programs in a new setting or for a different population (e.g., youth, persons with physical or cognitive disabilities, cultural or linguistic minority groups, etc.) and/or develop new programs.
