This site provides an excellent opportunity for ministerial training for Harvard students who are interested in working in a secular context with Native Americans or others with rural backgrounds. The Harvard student will gain experience in administration at the North American Indian Center of Boston (NAICOB). The student must be p.c. literate. Before beginning field work at NAICOB the student will receive training in cultural awareness by the field site supervisor.
NAICOB, a contractee/grantee of the Indian Health Service, serves the Native American community in the greater Boston area. Some of its members, who represent many tribes, were born and raised in the city, while others come from remote reservations in Canada and the United States. NAICOB provides assistance with problems associated with relocation, career counseling, job training, job search, access to health, medical, and welfare benefits and services, substance abuse counseling, psychotherapy, family therapy, traditional healing, and a Head Start Program. NAICOB is also a center for many social activities for the entire Native American community of the area.
