The Brigham and Women's Hospital is a 700+ bed acute care, research and teaching hospital affiliated with the Harvard Medical School that is both incredibly busy and challenging. It is internationally known for its expertise and cutting edge treatment in kidney, heart and bone marrow transplantation, as well as cardiac care, oncology, and high risk ob/gyn care. The patients, families and staff of the hospital include virtually all of the major world faith traditions and cultures.
Student
Involvement: Students are provided the opportunity to learn to minister to a variety of patients and their families under supervision. An emphasis is placed upon ministry to people in crisis, listening skills and communication, and pastoral care. Theological reflection and self-care as a person in ministry are strong components of the program. The Chaplaincy Services Department is an interfaith service in which students work with patients and their families from various faith and spiritual perspectives. In addition to patient visits, requirements include 4 on-call overnights, written verbatims, weekly journal reflection, participation and leadership of interfaith worship services.

Supervision: Weekly participation in a peer group is required. Students provide 12 hours of time per week on-site, for a total of 325 hours on site doing ministry or in seminars and supervision, and 75 hours of preparation/travel time during the year. Days and hours are arranged between the supervisor and students.
