Criscione Project: Renewal House, a program of the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry, is a shelter for individuals and families who have fled domestic violence. The program offers temporary emergency shelter and advocacy to those who have experienced violence in their living situation. Men, women and GLBT identified individuals are welcome in our program. Cooperative living, mutual support and ministry in a multi-cultural, multi-racial and multi-religious environment are important dimensions of the healing program. Student Involvement: Skills or qualities expected are emotional maturity, responsibility and the ability to relate to persons of different gender, sexual orientation or racial and cultural backgrounds. The role of the student will be worked out with the supervisor. In the past students have been asked co-facilitate a weekly support or spirituality group, and to do advocacy work with particular guests. Advocacy includes dealing with issues of housing, emergency assistance, child care, court advocacy and/or with systemic advocacy involving outreach and education to various groups (including churches) on the issues pertaining to domestic violence. Bilingual students encouraged to apply: Spanish, Portuguese or Haitian Creole. Arts of Ministry Competencies: Pastoral Care and Counseling. Administration and Program Development. Public Leadership, Community Organizing and Planning. Supervision: The student will meet regularly with the supervisor. Emphasis is on the effective growth of the student personally and in ministry. Internship is open to men and women.
