Project: St. Francis House is a nonprofit, nonsectarian day shelter. The largest such organization in New England, we serve more than 800 men and women every day of the year. We provide basic services including food, clothing, daytime shelter, and medical care combined with mental health and substance abuse counseling and rehabilitative services, as well as job skills training and transitional housing to help guests establish lives independent of shelters and institutions.

St. Francis House believes that homelessness is an experience, not an identity. In that spirit, we provide a safe, caring, respectful, and dignified refuge for our homeless brothers and sisters. Our basic and rehabilitative services overlap and build on one another to provide our guests with continuous and comprehensive care.

Student Involvement: Students will have an opportunity to integrate commitment to social justice with a concern for pastoral care of individuals.

Students may be involved in day center activities, pastoral counseling, worship leadership, bible study, providing meals and clothing to guests, fund-raising activities, or tutoring. By participating in the whole work of SFH, students will combine pastoral care with direct service opportunities.

Arts of Ministry Competencies: Pastoral Care and Counseling. Administration and Program Development. Public Leadership, Community Organizing and Planning.

Supervision: Weekly individual supervision.

Number of Students: 2

Total Stipend: $4,000.00
