50 Washington St. Contact Person: Rev. Laura Biddle Project: Tabernacle Church is an Open and Affirming United Church of Christ congregation. During the last four years, the church has experienced tremendous growth. Sunday morning worship is lively and creative with an emphasis on music and lay participation. The congregation is excited about its present and future ministry in the city of Salem and at the same time is rooted in a rich history. The church is located one block from the MBTA North Shore Commuter Rail. Terms of Placement: 12-15 hours per week; compensation of $4,000 plus transportation is available. UCC affiliation preferred, but not required. Student Involvement: Depending on the student's interests and experience, tasks may include regular participation in Sunday worship as preacher or liturgist or lay leader, leaderships in adult study groups, youth groups, confirmation and/or Christian Education for the youth of Tabernacle, pastoral visitation, participation in monthly staff meetings and other committees in the church, involvment with the community homeless shelter, and specific program development as negotiated with the supervisor. Arts of Ministry Competencies: Preaching and Worship. Religious Education and Spiritual Development. Administration and Program Development. Supervision: The student will meet weekly with the minister for evaluation, planning and theological reflection.
