Project: VNA Care Hospice is a non-profit agency which provides physical, emotional, spiritual care to terminally ill patients and their families. Care is given primarily at home, with in-patient backup available at Chilton House (Cambridge) and Tippett Home (Needham).

Student Involvement: Student would assist the Chaplain in providing pastoral care to patients and families in both home care and resident facilities. Student will work closely with an inter-disciplinary team of a physician, nurses, social workers, pastoral counselor and volunteers. The goal of the placement would be to provide the student with a working knowledge of how a community-based home care hospice functions. The student would take part in the training program for volunteers. Student responsibilities would include both direct patient/family contact and administrative support for the pastoral parts of the program. Work with bereavement groups is possible. Twelve to fifteen hours per week; a car is required. One unit of CPE is required.

Arts of Ministry Competencies: Pastoral Care and Counseling.

Supervision: Student would meet weekly with the Chaplain.
