Project: First Parish, gathered in 1630 is a small (approx. 125 members) but active congregation that is known for its caring support for its members. It is a humanistic, friendly and informal congregation. In recent years the church has grown considerably from being quite small with a church school of 8 to a current registered enrollment of 65. They are good singers, and we have an excellent music program. We are a diverse congregation with respect to economic status and family situations. Watertown is an industrial, working class community of 34,000 people. Ethnically it is a very diverse community, with a particularly large Armenian population. Approximately 25 languages are spoken at the high school. The community has an urban character with many businesses and retail operations, housing on congested lots, and many multi-family dwellings, with little open space.

Student Involvement: The student will participate fully in the life of the church, dependent upon interest and skills. We would expect active participation in the worship life of the church, including preaching opportunities. We would hope for some form of support for our Religious Education program, especially in the area of adult education. There will be many opportunities for committee work, and church administration. Responsibilities would include some support for public relations outreach, community involvement and pastoral care opportunities.

Arts of Ministry Competencies: Preaching and Worship. Pastoral Care and Counseling. Religious Education and Spiritual Development.

Supervision: Supervision will include weekly meetings with the supervisor. The student will also relate to the various committees within the church, and have his/her own support committee (Committee on Student Ministry). Any conflicts will be mediated through this committee and the supervisor's Ministerial Relations Committee.
