Project: The North Shore Medical Center is a 420 bed not-for-profit community based health care facility. Services encompass primary, emergency/trauma, acute and rehabilitation care. The NSMC is unique in that it is the only teaching hospital between Boston and Portland, Maine, serving the widest population of Massachusetts' North Shore. This innovative regional facility is also a site for major cardiology services including open-heart surgery. The NSMC includes Salem Hospital, North Shore Children's Hospital, and Union Hospital in Lynn, MA. The site is easily accessable by car or by public transportation.

Student Involvement: Students will participate as members of the pastoral care department, having the opportunity to minister to and experience a wide range of health care concerns and settings. Student opportunities include not only ministering to the spiritual needs of patients from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds but also ministering to hospital staff and having the opportunity to facilitate and participate in group work. Students will also take part in interdisciplinary team meetings and plan and officiate interfaith worship services. There are many opportunities throughout the medical center for innovative student leadership.

Arts of Ministry Competencies: Preaching and Worship. Pastoral Care and Counseling.

Supervision: Weekly supervision and participation in peer group with emphasis on development of spiritual care skills and ministerial identity.
