Project: We are in the heart of Inman Square, a middle-class residential and commercial neighborhood, bordering Somerville, and situated between Harvard. Sq. and E. Cambridge, one half mile from the Divinity School. Students at FUPCC will be welcomed into a small (90-100), vibrant, urban church of surprising diversity. Besides a wealth of ages and backgrounds, one-fourth of our members are West African (Cameroon, Ghana, Nigeria), with others from Korea, China, the Philippines, Ireland and Brazil. Half our people are from academia, several of them seminarians. Worship is centered on Christ as Living Word, embracing both traditional and contemporary forms, and characterized by creative liturgy, biblical preaching, open prayer and superb music. An emphasis on shared leadership encourages fresh thinking, experimental programs, and the fostering of lay people's gifts. We are active in the Boston Presbytery, through which we have a partnership with four other PC (USA) congregations.

Student Involvement: The training of seminarians is a major focus of the session (pastor + elders) and congregation. Field Education experiences are tailored to fit the student's strengths, interests, and need for experience. These may include opportunities to teach adult or children's classes, organize and lead worship services, preach, plan programs, and to occasionally assist the pastor with home and hospital visits, funerals, crisis response, and counseling.

Supervision: Students will meet with the pastor for 2-3 hours every other week for reflection on the tasks of ministry and for mutual support. An Intern Care Committee provides regular feedback and prayer.
