Project: Hyde Park Presbyterian Church is a small (about 50 adults and children in worship each Sunday), multicultural congregation in an urban neighborhood. The church includes people of all ages and a variety of ethnic and class backgrounds. Over half of the people in the congregation are immigrants from the West Indies and Africa. The Hyde Park neighborhood includes established, working-class and retired European immigrant families; more recent immigrants from Haiti and other Caribbean islands and Africa; and young, professional families. The congregation is very friendly and committed to growing and serving its neighborhood. Church programs include Sunday worship and mid-week Bible Study prayer and Sunday School for children and youth. The church runs the ShOuT! (Sharing Our Talents) performing arts and education program, which includes an after-school tutoring program, a monthly coffee house and open mic, the Stage Light Theatre Troupe, and a community band. The church also sponsors a diaper distribution program and participates in a local food pantry; community organizing; and youth organizing.

Student Involvement: Students will have the opportunity to participate in the full range of activities of urban parish ministry, depending on student interests and goals. Possible projects include preaching and leading worship, pastoral care and visitation, teaching adults and/or children, leadership with community ministries, or initiating new projects.
