BCMHE's chaplaincy at MIT represents the following denominations: United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church (USA), the American Baptist Church, and the United Church of Christ. The ministry includes many students from these denominations, as well as students of other backgrounds. Sunday morning worship in the MIT Chapel is a primary gathering place for the Protestant Student Community. The community also meets for study, retreats, brunches, outings and community service projects.
MIT is an international community, and faith development is important for many students. This, alongside the rigorous academic pressures, provides an opportunity to minister in a variety of ways. The students teach each other, both academically and spiritually. The ministry can help students learn which parts of their faith are cultural and which are religious. Both are important ways of determing how we are going to live together in the 21st century.
