Project: The Chapel is a member church of The General Convention of Swedenborgian Churches, with headquarters in Newton, MA. Swedenborg Chapel presents a progressive outlook in a traditional setting. Its theological perspectives are based on the Bible as understood through the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg, Swedish scientist, philosopher and theologian of the 18th century. One way to try and convey what is special about the Swedeborgian church is to say that it is distinctively Christian and Bible centered and at the same time believes that God is present in all religions, and that there is a place in heaven for all who live decent and caring lives. The Chapel provides a ministry known as "The Wedding Chapel" to couples of all faiths and serves as a meeting place for several community groups and various other organizations.

Student Involvement: Swedenborgian affiliation is not a requirement, although a working knowledge of Swedenborgian ideas would be a natural result of the student internship. Swedenborg Chapel will gladly welcome students of other backgrounds and faiths to participate in its programs. There are numerous ways student interns can tailor their involvement with the site. Interns would have the opportunity to help lead Sunday worship, preach occasionally, participate in our weekly community dinner and Swedenborgian reading group, assist with the wedding ministry, and participate in our bi-monthly mystical experience discussion group. We also have several opportunities for involvement in social action and restorative justice projects.

Arts of Ministry Competencies: Preaching and Worship. Pastoral Care and Counseling. Religious Education and Spiritual Development. Administration and Program Development. Public Leadership, Community Organizing and Planning.

Supervision: Meet weekly with supervisor; monthly with site committee.
